The Welwood Murray Cemetery is tucked in a corner near the O'Donnell Golf Club and Temple Isaiah at the west end of Chino Drive in Palm Springs. The cemetery is the final resting place of many Palm Springs pioneers including Charles & Virginia Farrell, and one of our favorite mid-century architects Albert Frey. We often drive by this little parcel while showing real estate in Vista Las Palmas and Old Las Palmas.

The cemetery was designated a Class 1 Historic Site by the Palm Springs City Council on February 6, 1985, and according to the plaque: The Welwood Cemetery was the first community cemetery for non-indian settlers in the Palm Springs area. When Welwood Erskine Murray, the son of pioneer hotel operator Welwood Murray, died in 1894, he was
