Palm Springs Historic Site #6 - The House of Murphy Hotel

the murphy hotel palm springsWell after some searching, I finally figured out why I couldn't find The House of Murphy Hotel at 262 S Palm Canyon Dr in Palm Springs. The property was designated a Class 2 Historic Site by the Palm Springs City Council on October 3, 1984. I didn't realize that a Class 2 Historic Site is no longer extant. According to the City of Palm Springs website, "Class 2 designation is used to recognize a site where a historic building or feature once stood but is no longer present, or to recognize that a historic event occurred at that particular site." Thanks to the internet and eBay, I was able to find an old postcard with an image of the hotel. Currently occupying the site is the Chop House, a steak and seafood restaurant. We do love to eat and shop on eBay at the Paul Kaplan Group, but I am sorry we missed seeing this hotel and that very cool shamrock sign.

Next on the list of Palm Springs Historic Sites is the Frances Stevens School.
