Modernism Week - It's not too late to have a good time!!

It's almost here!  The Paul Kaplan Group and about 100,000 attendees are getting ready for the biggest festival of its kind , Modernism Week, coming to Palm Springs Feb 15 to 25th.   "The ultimate celebration of mid-century design, architecture and culture."   Tickets sell out months in advance, but don't worry! There's still a ton of things to do, see and enjoy in Palm Springs, for those that procrastinated!!  See some of the highlights below from the Modernism Week events web page:

Modernism Showcase Home -  Moroccan Modern
Tour Modernism Week’s first Showcase Home by Thomboy Properties. This is a one of a kind custom-built home from 1975 by architect Hal Lacy recently renovated to modern luxury. While the house is thoroughly modern, the architect created tremendous drama by adding magnificent touches that harken back to Morocco.

"The Power of Pattern"  house tour and book release
Join us for a midcentury house tour and celebration of the release of Palm Springs Preservation Foundation's lavishly illustrated book Concrete Screen Block: The Power of Pattern. The event will be held in a stunning 1963 modernist home designed by New York master builder Boris Gertzen.  The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to educate and promote public awareness of the importance of preserving the historical resources and architecture of the city of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley area.” 

Palm Springs Door Tour



Come explore the colorful and unique doors of the Indian Canyons neighborhood during the Palm Springs Door Tour, presented by Dunn-Edwards Paints and curated by our friends at Palm Springs Style. This self-guided bike tour begins at the Saguaro Palm Springs hotel, which features colorful hues by Dunn-Edwards Paints, and then continues through the Indian Canyons neighborhood where docents at each stop will share information about the homes’ architecture and front door colors. Bring your own bike, or rent a bike for pick up at the event check-in at the Saguaro (rental bikes must be reserved in advance by contacting Bike Palm Springs. )

Free Tour of Midcentury Neighborhoods

Palm Springs is the birthplace of "Desert Modernism."  Fine examples of modernist architecture can bee seen all over town. Palm Springs offers an abundance of amazing homes on display to drool over!  There will be a huge collection of open houses hosted by real estate agents, throughout Palm Springs .  CLICK here for our list of open houses available to the public;  the list will be updated Friday, Feb 17th, and Feb 23rd.  You might even be tempted to buy your own piece of modernist Palm Springs history for yourself!!

The sale is a last hurrah for 10 days of fabulous architecture, history and haute houses. And it wouldn’t be complete without the tradition of  free donuts provided by the Paul Kaplan Group.
