Whether you've got a three-day weekend coming up that you want to take advantage of or you're looking for a getaway from Palm Springs, we have some suggestions to make the most of your weekend trip.

1. Two Bunch Palms

Distance from Palm Springs: 20 minutes

Where to stay: Two Bunch Palms Hotel

Escape to this 77 lush acre, adults-only resort with mountain views. Dating from 1930 the hotel is a mile from Cabot’s Pueblo Museum and a few miles from shopping at Palm Canyon Drive and Palm Springs' Aerial Tramway.

2. Idyllwild

Distance from Palm Springs: 1 hour and 4 minutes

Where to stay: The Grand Idyllwild Lodge

Idyllwild is nestled in the San Jacinto mountains. The town has kept its "small town" atmosphere. Locally owned shops and restaurants are all you will find here. Come and experience the peace and quiet of Idyllwild.

3. Borrego Springs

Distance from Palm Springs: 1 hour and 32 minutes

Where to stay: La Casa del Zorro Resort & Spa

It’s the only California town that is completely surrounded by a state park. The downtown area has a passel of ice cream shops, restaurants, and lodgings, but the local art scene evokes the most community pride.

4. Joshua Tree National Park

Distance from Palm Springs: 51 minutes

Where to stay: The Spring Resort & Spa

A fascinating variety of plants and animals make their homes in a land sculpted by strong winds and occasional torrents of rain. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the wonder of this vast wilderness in southern California.

5. Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown

Distance from Palm Springs: 39 minutes

Where to stay: Pioneertown Motel

Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace is a honky-tonk, barbecue restaurant and music venue near Joshua Tree National Park in Pioneertown, California.
