Before the onset of the mid-century style, Palm Springs was known for its Mission Revival architecture that surrounds the original downtown village. Often referred to as Spanish Eclectic, buildings of this style, exemplify much of Palm Springs' early architecture.

Typical features include, tiled roofs, extensive porticos offer shade from the desert sun, saltillo pavers, decorative colored tiles, and "mediterranean" accents.  Lush desert oasis's were created for those fortunate early 20th century homeowners, and still enjoyed today.
