Designed in 1947 by the famed desert architect William F. The Del Marcos was designed by famed architect, William Cody, which launched his solo career in the desert. The hotel made a big statement about Cody's design abilites when one considers the other architectural jewels being builting at the time: Albert Frey's Loewy House, Richard Neutra's Kaufmann haouse and E. Stewart William's Sinatra house.
In 1949, the Del Marcos hotel earned Cody a creative mention award from the Southern California chapeter of the American Institute of Architects as an example of new resort hotel architecture. The design was a new concept in resort hotels. Built to accommodate the post-war automobile obsessed traveler, the hotel offered plenty of parking, kitchenettes in most rooms, and an open plan surrounding a central swimming pool, that encouraged socializing among the guests.
Although two stories, the long sloping roofline grounded the building against the backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains. The influence of architect Cliff May with whom Cody had a working relationship during college, is very evident. The floor-to-ceilng glass, fine stone work and redwood sidings are classic trademarks.
Guest Rooms: The Del Marcos hosts 16 guest rooms. Some rooms with a kitchenette that includes a small table, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and dishes. The rooms also include freshly updated bathrooms with glass mosaic tiles.
